Dr. Emily M. Jones graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree (2004) in Physical Education and a Master of Arts degree (2006) also in Physical Education. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree (2009) in Kinesiology from University of Georgia- Athens, thereafter joining (2009) the faculty at the University of West Virginia.

Dr. Jones was the recipient of faculty awards at the University of West Virginia, including the Excellence in Research Award (2013-2014), Excellence in Teaching Award (2013-2014), Excellence in Service Award (2011-2012) and the Grants Person of the Year Award (2014-15). Emily has authored or co-authored over 30 national or international publications and has received over one and a half million dollars in grants and contracts

Additional awards include the West Virginia Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Young Professional Award (2011), the Scholar Award (2013), the Big XII Faculty Research Award (2015) and the SHAPE American Mabel Lee Award (2016-17).
