Alumni & Friends

Connections that count

Our alumni criss-cross Iowa, the nation and the world. We’re proud to hail leaders in classrooms, school districts, education agencies and across higher education. Many of you are not only adding to, but initiating, dialogue for continued improvement in our professions and our communities.

And, you give back. We see you mentoring a school psychology graduate student. Serving as a friend of our principalship and superintendency students. Providing valuable experience by supporting assistantships. Through you, we — the college and UNI — have an extraordinary network of professionals as friends and benefactors.

Good for us, good for you, good for our students.

Recipients of legacy of excellence award.

A Legacy of Excellence

“Amy is an outstanding listener who genuinely cares about the perspectives and lenses that others share with her. Her ability to listen and understand those perspectives allow her to respond to situations in a way that validate concerns, solve problems and restore dignity, all at the same time.”

So wrote a nominator of Amy Schmidt, (‘99, BA, “14 ASC/Principalship), a principal in the Waterloo Community School District and the 2021 recipient of the UNI Educational Leadership Legacy Award. The award is sponsored in part by a gift in memory of former educational leader Vernon Kirlin (BA, ‘46).

Support the Future

There is a good chance you benefited as a student in some way from the generosity of alumni and friends. A gift to the Educational Leadership Fund for Excellence can greatly add to the experience of today’s students in these areas:

  • ‌Professional development
  • Travel
  • ‌Technology
  • General (housing, materials, student organizations)
