Job Description

Position Title:  Graduate Teaching Assistant

Reports to:  Dr. Leigh Zeitz, Lead Teacher for Educational Technology and Design, leigh.zeitz@uni.edu, 319-273-3249

Terms of Employment:

  1. For the Fall semester 20 hours per week, beginning August 22, 2022 and ending December 16, 2022. These dates might vary upon approval of the academic calendar.
  2. For the spring semester 20 hours per week, beginning January 17, 2023 and ending May 12, 2023. These dates might vary upon approval of the academic calendar.
  3. Will be expected to attend organizational meetings on Tuesdays, 9:30 – 10:30am; assist in 3-4 one-hour labs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday mornings.

Compensation:

  1. Full graduate assistantship stipend is $5476 per semester.  Amount may be prorated depending on start date.
  2. Graduate assistants may qualify for in-state tuition and fees.  
  3. Graduate assistants receive University holidays and do not work during the interims between semesters.

Position Description:

  1. Collaboratively teach labs on Monday through Thursday.
  2. Become familiar with student assignments by completing them.
  3. Attend weekly organizational meetings.
  4. Correct homework.
  5. Provide general support for the success of the course.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI residential graduate program.  
  2. Maintain a UNI cumulative graduate GPA of at least 3.00.  First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00.
  3. Have an official transcript on file in the Office of Admissions.
  4. Be regularly admitted without provisions to degree status in a graduate degree program.
  5. Must meet UNI’s HRS employment eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Background experience in teaching.
