About the Department

The Department of Learning, Leadership and Community (LLC) brings together diverse disciplines dedicated to education, service, and leadership. 

One undergraduate degree. One minor. Seven master’s programs. Ten certificates. More than 20 faculty who include former superintendents, instructional designers, recreation professionals, community leaders and even licensed school psychologists. This eclectic mix of expertise works together to prepare students to lead in classrooms, schools, nonprofit and for-profit organizations and communities. 

Whether you're interested in educational leadership, student development, instructional technology, nonprofit work, or outdoor and recreational programming, LLC offers pathways to create meaningful impact. Engaged faculty are ready to share their expertise and help you gain the tools to improve lives, make a difference and build stronger, healthier communities.

Ron Rinehart, PhD, serves as department head and associate professor. He joined UNI in 2017 and previously served as head of the Department of Educational Psychology, Foundations and Leadership Studies prior to a re-alignment of academic departments in 2025.
