Why did you choose to pursue this degree at UNI?
UNI was the first and only school I visited and right away I just knew it was where I wanted to go. I wanted experience with my major and I knew at UNI I would be challenged to grow and learn from really strong educators.
What kind of path did you take to achieve your degree?
I always knew I wanted to work with people as I have a strong passion for human relations. However, I did not realize I wanted to work in early childhood until I saw how much of an impact I can have being a positive support in children's lives. That to me is so important and one of the best ways I can use my passions and strengths to help others.
What does completing your degree mean to you?
Completing my degree means that I was able to pursue a goal I had always had for myself. I went to college because I wanted to grow and meet new people. Finishing my degree is something I can look back on and recognize all that I gained from my college experience.
What challenges did you face as you worked toward this degree – and how did you overcome them?
I would say the biggest challenge to me in college was the COVID-19 pandemic. It was hard to gain experience in my field when everything went online. I felt like I missed out on a lot of field experiences, but it was something that I made up for by putting myself in situations and jobs to help me grow in the field of early childhood and special education.
How did UNI help you achieve your goals?
I felt like right away I was so supported at UNI with my friend group I made and with the professors and faculty at UNI. UNI helped me grow and be more confident with my future decisions and the impact I want to make.
What’s your best memory of your time at UNI?
So many, but I would say all my best memories are with the people I've met at UNI.
What advice would you give to students considering UNI?
I would say really look at what you want to gain and what is important to you for your college experience. UNI is a great place to make strong connections with professors who care about you and your education.
What do you plan to do with your degree?
I want to be a teacher in an inclusive preschool. That is my dream job. Right now, I am just thinking about student teaching and where I want to teach in the future.
