Why did you choose this degree -- and to pursue this degree at UNI?
I chose RTNL because I have always valued helping the community and those who need it. Nonprofit work is something very special and UNI had a great program and courses to help prepare someone for a career in the field.

What kind of path did you take to achieve your degree (always knew this was what you wanted, discovered your passion along the way?)
I came to college looking to explore majors and see which one was the best fit for me. I bounced around a couple and finally landed in RTNL.

If you had an internship/practicum/field experience, describe your experience and how it has prepared you for your career.
I had an internship at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. This internship was one of the main highlights of my time in college. I was able to blend the information and skills I had learned in the classroom and develop them into actual hands on work in a real world setting. It was incredibly helpful in terms of preparing me for a career.

What does completing your degree mean to you?
It is an amazing accomplishment to complete a degree in anything. I am thankful for all the family and friends that have supported me to get to this stage of life.

What challenges did you face as you worked toward this degree – and how did you overcome them?
It has always been a challenge to know what I wanted to do for a career. It was great to finally start to feel like I found something I was interested in and enjoyed when I started taking RTNL courses.

How did UNI help you achieve your goals?
UNI had helped me reach my goals in many ways. The most helpful way was by allowing me to try different classes and explore different majors. The team of advisors has been very helpful and encouraging.

We often say UNI is ... 1) student focused; 2) a place where professors care--and teach; 3) a place where learning happens in and out of the classroom;  and 4) is perfectly sized. Do you have an example or experience of how one or more of these statements rings true for you?
One of my favorite parts about UNI and the RTNL program is the professors. I have developed relationships with several of the professors and they really do care and desire to share the knowledge they have.

What’s your best memory of your time at UNI?
My favorite memories at UNI include hanging out with friends and playing intramural sports.

What advice would you give to students considering UNI?
It’s a great place to spend your time in college. There is a home for every student and it is easy to find things to get involved with outside of the classroom.

What do you plan to do with your degree? Do you already know next steps/have a position?
I am staying in the Cedar Valley to pursue my career.
