Courtney received a B.A. in mathematics, B.A. in environmental science, and two certificates, sustainability and outdoor recreation, through the University of Northern Iowa. She worked at Adventure Treks in Hendersonville, NC, Vertical Endeavors in Bloomington, MN, and is now enrolled in the Community Health and Recreation master's program at UNI and works as a graduate assistant. Her goal in her studies is to gain knowledge and understanding of leisure and recreation to utilize when she professionally guides adventures in the outdoors. As a graduate assistant, she collaborates with faculty and undergraduate student coordinators to run various outdoor adventure trips through the RTNL Outdoor Adventure program. She also instructs one-credit courses on rock climbing, canoeing, winter skills, and backpacking.
