What attracted you to UNI and the College of Education?
My entire post high school academic career has been completed through UNI, so the opportunity to come back and work at UNI and be a part of the College of Education was a dream come true.

Describe an experience that reinforces why you enjoy what you do.
Every time I step out of my office in Schindler Education Center, I’m greeted by a photo of Amy Schmidt on the wall. Today, she is a recipient of the UNI Educational Leadership Legacy Award and serves as the associate superintendent of Waterloo Community Schools. But when I look at her, I still remember the bright 8th grader sitting in my algebra class. Watching a former student turn her passion for learning into such meaningful leadership is the ultimate reminder of why I love being an educator.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Students over content, caring over curriculum, growth over achievement and never stop trying to learn.

What do you hope students learn from you?
That I'm interested in them for more than what they can achieve. I want to help them grow in all aspects of life, not just academics.
