Professional Accomplishments

Barness has several publications. Her dissertation entitled Early Childhood Professional Learning Facilitators:  A Self-study with a New Delivery Model was completed in 2019.

In 2018, as a member of the Governor’s Task Force on PK-16 Gender Violence and Bullying Prevention, she worked on the Primary Prevention Action Report for Iowa Schools and Communities. With several members of the Curriculum and Instruction and Teaching departments, Barness published "Attitude changes after arts-integrated unit:  Teacher candidate attitude changes after experiences an arts-integrated unit on Africa," in 2012 for Social Studies Research and Practice.

She has also served as a scholarly reviewer for the Journal of STEM, Arts, Crafts and Construction, reviewing "Preschoolers Explore Greenhouses by Visiting a Greenhouse, Making Models and Growing Plants." She has also reviewed the book "Young Investigators:  The Project Approach in the Early Years,"  3rd edition in 2016 for the Teachers College Press.
