Rep. Sharon Steckman


Sharon is currently in her third term in the Iowa House of Representatives where she is the ranking member of the House Education Standing Committee. She also serves on the Environmental Protection and State Government standing committees and the Education Appropriations Subcommittee. Sharon also serves on the Advisory Council for RSVP of North Central Iowa, the Governor’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Council, and the Iowa Commission for Midwest Higher Education Compact. She also served on the Interim Legislative Tax Expenditure Commission. Sharon graduated with honors from Iowa State University in 1980 and began work as an elementary teacher and Title I reading specialist in the Mason City School District. During her tenure, she served as president and chief negotiator for the Mason City Education Association.
