Welcome to the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa! It is an exciting time to join a university with so much momentum as a leader in teacher education, as a partner institution with organizations and industry, and as an entity pushing for innovation.
Holding steadfast to its teacher education tradition since 1876 yet expanding in the modern world, the College of Education is organized into six academic divisions: Department of Curriculum & Instruction; Department of Educational Leadership & Postsecondary Education; Department of Educational Psychology & Foundations; School of Kinesiology, Applied Health, & Human Services; Department of Teaching; and Department of Special Education. Our undergraduate and graduate students are prepared for careers that range from elementary, middle-level and special education teachers to school psychologists, educational leaders, environmental health specialists, athletic trainers, nonprofit professionals, early childhood education providers, college faculty members, health education specialists, physical education teachers and beyond. Students gain experience through diverse early and in-depth immersion in professional settings to receive practical, hands-on experiences that deepen their learning. Our partnership with local schools, agencies and a broad range of constituents across the region, and outreach efforts through our cutting-edge centers, institutes, professional education services and summer enrichment programs help us offer the most dynamic, responsive and engaging experiences to our students which simultaneously address the needs of the community.
Faculty are dedicated to making knowledge matter and engaging in unfettered inquiry. The personalized attention, service learning and study abroad opportunities, and caring community allow for a high level of interaction between students and faculty. Coupled with that, our staff professionals are committed to help students transition to the higher education environment, and provide student support services to help them stay connected. Preparing educators and human service professionals is a collective endeavor so our students achieve their aspirations, are successful in their careers, and make a difference in our rapidly-changing and increasingly globalized society.
