Why did you chose UNI?
My older sister attends UNI and ever since I first visited the campus on her college tour five years ago, I knew this was the place for me. The atmosphere was kind, welcoming, spirited, and everything I wanted in a college. Another reason why I chose the University of Northern Iowa was because of its fabulous reputation for its teaching program.
Why should students thinking about going into teaching come to UNI?
Everyone says that UNI has the best teacher education program in the Midwest and I definitely can tell you that that is true. The classes that you take are tailored specifically to what you will need to know to be the best teacher you can be. They challenge you while still keeping the content interesting and applicable.
How has your experience been? Tell us about a great class or professor that inspired or challenged you.
As a first semester freshman, I haven’t had a lot of experiences to draw from. However, the field experience that I was given in my Level 1 Field Experience class really got me thinking about what it means to be a great teacher. It taught me how to plan a lesson, exactly what a teacher does from day to day, and it reassured me that I want to be a teacher. As I continue to learn and grow here at UNI, I plan to do whatever it takes to be the best teacher that I can possibly be.
Years from now, what will you remember the most about UNI?
What I will remember most about UNI is the feeling of community. I have only been at UNI for a semester, but I feel like I have already made some amazing friends. When you are walking to class, students and staff members smile and make it feel as though they are glad that you are here. I feel welcome and accepted on campus. When people ask me where I go to school, it is with great pride that I tell them The University of Northern Iowa.
