University of Northern Iowa programs in graduate education were recognized in the 2022 US News and World Report “Best Graduate Schools” rankings announced March 30.
The annual listing recognizes professional school programs in several disciplines, including education. The UNI College of Education offers 11 master’s programs in education represented within the parameters of the ranking, including:
- early childhood education
- educational psychology
- elementary education
- special education
- health education
- instructional technology
- literacy education
- physical education: pedagogy
- postsecondary education
- school psychology
The UNI programs include a mix of master’s degrees offered both face-to-face at the college and through hybrid or online degree options, in conjunction with the Division of Continuing Education and Special Programs and the Graduate College.
“This comprehensive ranking for the entirety of our master’s in education programs at the college speaks to the quality of the continuum of professional preparation for educators offered at University of Northern Iowa,” said UNI College of Education Dean Colleen Mulholland. “Paired with our doctoral program and complementary graduate degrees in secondary education and related areas like school counseling, UNI is certainly a leading choice for future and current educators and administrators.”
“Our master's in education programs are successful because of our graduate faculty who build strong relationships with students,” added Jennifer Waldron, dean, UNI Graduate College. “Through mentoring, students are guided to gain a deeper understanding of PK-21 education, and directly apply it to their current or future career in the educational system. Many of our graduates serve the state of Iowa and contribute to the public good.”
The ranking for “best graduate schools” in education follows the recently announced addition of UNI to the 2021 rankings for best master’s in education online degree programs by US News and World Report in January 2021.
University of Northern Iowa’s leadership in preparing new teachers and helping current educators and administrators further their education and careers reflects a legacy dating back to UNI's beginnings as the Iowa State Normal School in 1876.
