With Board of Regents, State of Iowa, approval on June 3, students looking to advance their career in the field of student affairs in postsecondary education have a new, flexible online option at the University of Northern Iowa.
Applications are now accepted through July 23 for the online version of the Master of Arts (MA) degree, offered by the UNI College of Education in conjunction with UNI Online & Distance Education.
This new option delivers the same high-quality curriculum as an existing on-campus program taught by College of Education faculty. It is specifically designed for working professionals in higher education seeking a flexible, part-time option. The master’s program leads to career advancement in areas such as residence life, student activities, admissions, financial aid, career services and multicultural affairs in colleges and universities.
“The online program fulfills a growing need. Over the past few years, our college has had a number of interested students working full-time in the field, but needing flexible options to continue their education,” said David Schmid, assistant professor and coordinator of the program.
“Because of the success of our solid residential graduate program, we know there is interest in the student affairs field. As we emerge from the pandemic, we're pleased to offer this option and expand the reach of this program at the same time," said Colleen S. Mulholland, dean of the UNI College of Education.
UNI Online & Distance Education has a well-developed system of student support services in place to support adult learners, said Dean of Continuing Education Kent Johnson. Based on student surveys, “nearly 100% of our degree-seeking students would recommend their program to a friend or colleague.”
This new option expands the offerings of the UNI Graduate College and a robust range of undergraduate and graduate online programs coordinated by UNI Online & Distance Education.
