Science educator and UNI alum leads 2019 Bill and Linda Tubbs Teaching Connections

Becky Wolfe, M. Ed., Director of School Programs and Educational Resources for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, is the guest speaker for the Bill and Linda Tubbs Teaching Connections at the University of Northern Iowa College of Education (COE) Feb. 6-8, 2019.

Ms. Wolfe, a 2001 UNI COE graduate in elementary and middle school education, has been part of the museum staff for 11 years. For this two-day professional development program, she will focus on non-traditional delivery of educational programming, education in the non-profit setting, youth development and STEM education.

Ms. Wolfe will speak on “Integrating STEM through Museum Science Programs for K-12 Schools” at a welcome reception on Wednesday, and will focus on “Community Engagement through Science Education” in an all-faculty and student presentation on Thursday.

Other presentations include a breakfast discussion on STEM with UNI Teacher Education faculty, center directors and graduate students, and classroom presentations to elementary science and health, recreation and community services students.

This professional development program for faculty, students, in-service teachers and administrators is in its third year. The initiative was renamed to reflect a donation by Bill and Linda Tubbs to the UNI Foundation to support the College of Education’s speaker, travel and resource expenses.  Mary Donegan-Ritter, PhD, Mary Stichter, MA, and Disa Cornish, PhD, have served as faculty coordinators.
