I have had the opportunity and an intellectual pleasure to interact twice with Dr. Darling-Hammond this year , first as she presented the keynote address for the Iowa Mentoring Conference via interactive video and second in a more visceral interaction as she presented on a panel about the future of education and teacher preparation at the Iowa Education Summit. Dr. Darling-Hammond is known for her brilliant insights and her authentic connections to the classroom. When she speaks, leaders listen, and policy is created. She is a known advisor to President Obama and Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan.
If her latest book, she challenges us to invest in global connectivity, technology integration, 21st Century skills, social justice, equity, and diversity in order to provide all of our learners a world-class education. Several people will be reading this book throughout fall 2011 and will be discussing it as a community call to action. I have been asked to co-facilitate this book discussion sponsored by the Cedar Valley Citizens for Undoing Racism. If you are interested in joining this group, call 319-291-4441.
