Spring 2021 brought a return, of sorts, to the tradition of commencement for UNI College of Education graduates. With select family and friends in the audience at the UNI-Dome, graduates were filled with anticipation and appreciation for having this renewed opportunity for an in-person celebration after a challenging year. One by one, each walked across a quieter stage, with fellow graduates watching from carefully spaced chairs. Over a long winter, they wondered if this day would come after seeing earlier ceremonies converted to a virtual-only celebrations. Yet, it did.
Once again, bachelor's program graduates in early childhood education; elementary education; middle level education and physical education teaching; athletic training and rehabilitation studies; public health and education; recreation, tourism and nonprofit leadership; and movement and exercise science shifted their tassel as they were proclaimed graduates of UNI. Dozens of others cherished further advancement with completion of master's and doctoral degrees, with the final group adding a cherished hood. For all, a great accomplishment, but also a new beginning.
Here are just a few of the stories of some of this spring's graduates.
