Lincoln Teachers Join Department of Teaching Faculty for iPad Training

March 25, 2013

The concept of joint professional development was in evidence this week as twelve teachers from Lincoln Elementary in Cedar Falls joined faculty in the Department of Teaching for a half day of Apple iPad training.

When Field Experience Coordinator Dr. Curtis Nielsen found out that there were open seats for an upcoming Apple training, he immediately thought of the teachers he works with at Lincoln, which had recently purchased mobile labs of iPads for classroom use. He coordinated the professional development with Lincoln principal Deb Beving, who arranged for substitute teachers.

Nielsen stated, “The iPad training was an easy win-win situation. We were able to provide teachers the opportunity to learn things they could immediately use with their students, which will be a great model for our UNI students as well.”

At the start of the year, Nielsen was asked to serve on the Lincoln building leadership team by Beving to ensure that the Lincoln-UNI partnership would support the school’s needs and priorities. “Curt is very visible and accessible in our school. I consider him one of our staff and I appreciate all he does to make this a true partnership,” Beving stated, “and the bottom line is that our students are benefitting.”
