Post-baccalaureate or graduate options

Reading endorsement

A reading endorsement for post-baccalaureate or graduate students is offered online through Continuing Education.  The courses offered meet Iowa's Reading K-8 Endorsement requirements. Practicing teachers learn how to assess students’ literacy strengths and needs. They then design and implement reading and writing instruction for students to help them become more skilled and successful literacy learners.

Teacher librarian endorsement

The online School Library Studies program offers graduate courses that meet the Iowa requirements for teacher librarian endorsement (formerly called media specialist endorsement).  A teacher librarian manages the school library program and serves as a leader in technology and literacy, a teacher of digital citizenship, and an advocate for lifelong readers.  Iowa teacher librarian endorsements (#108, #109, and #174) require an Iowa teaching license (any subject or grade level, K-12) and 24-33 credits in teacher librarian coursework. Through the UNI School Library Studies program, students can earn an endorsement only or an endorsement and an MA degree.   For a list of courses required by UNI for each endorsement, email librarystudies@uni.edu.
