The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers classes in a variety of delivery modes and settings including traditional face-to-face classes as well as ICN, online, and guided independent study.

Students attending classes on the UNI campus can earn undergraduate or graduate degrees and endorsements in the areas of Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Middle Level Education, Literacy Education, Instructional Technology, School Library Studies, or Education of the Gifted.

Distance Education Degree Programs

Curriculum and Instruction offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs via distance education. Courses are offered via the interactive video conferencing, the internet, or a hybrid of these delivery systems. For more information, visit UNI Continuing Education: All Programs web page.

The University of Northern Iowa and area community colleges offer bachelor's degree opportunities through 2+2 programs. Students take two years of classes at a community college, receiving the AA degree and then the equivalent of two years of classes through UNI. The UNI classes are taught by UNI faculty on location at the community college face-to-face, via interactive video conferencing or through online coursework.

In partnership with community colleges, UNI offers the 2+2 degree programs for students who are place-bound and cannot move to the UNI campus. These opportunities are available at designated community colleges. Check the 2+2 web site for the community college and programs offered.

Guided Independent Study Courses

Courses in Elementary Education, Middle Level Education and Literacy Education are available via guided independent study. This format provides a convenient way to earn college credit - enroll at any time, set your own schedule and work at your own pace. Courses are completed entirely at a distance. For more information, visit the UNI Guided Independent Study website.
