The Literacy Education program offers a Master of Arts in Education (M.A.E.) degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy Education. The Literacy Education specialty is designed to develop and extend the expertise of educators in both leadership and classroom positions who wish to specialize in the area of literacy education. Students examine theories, programs and practices in the teaching of literacy, the evaluation of literacy development, and the integration of literacy across curriculum areas. The graduate program requires 33 credits, with courses offered during the Fall and Spring semesters via the ICN and the web. Summer sessions may involve some on-campus study. Programs are offered in cohort groups over a two-three year time period. Courses are scheduled in the evening and at other times convenient for working professionals. The program may be extended by students wishing to complete any of the four State of Iowa licensure endorsements.
